Threat
Assessment
Threat assessments identify threats to an organization from
threat agents. Threat agents take advantage of an organization's
vulnerabilities. These agents can be benign forces such as
an earthquake, power failure, or an accident such as a coffee
spill. These threat agents can also be malicious.
Two major types of malicious threat agents, external or internal.
External threat agents include hackers, customers, or script
kiddies, anyone external to a company. Internal threat agents
are the most common and can cause the most damage in the worst
way.
Threat assessments are normally associated with Risk Assessments,
Vulnerability Assessments, business continuity planning, and
Penetration Testing.
